A fighter jet pilot survived a crash landing at a Marine base in Southern California Tuesday night. The pilot ejected from an F/A-18C Hornet after it touched down at the Twentynine Palms Strategic Expeditionary Landing Field about 140 miles east of Los Angeles, according to Marine Corps spokesman 1st Lt. John Roberts.

Syrian MiG-29 fighter jets performing combat missions with Russian made R-77 missiles

Syrian Air Force Mikoyan MiG-29 (NATO reporting name: Fulcrum) fighter jets are performing sorties with medium-range air-to-air missiles of the R-77 (AA-12 Adder) family. Syrian Radio & TV Agency has broadcasted a video showing the attaching of an air-launched weapon of this type to a MiG-29 plane. The video shows a R-77-family missile (most probably, an export version of the missile, i.e. RVV-SD) being carried by an under-wing AKU-170E ejection unit of a MiG-29 plane.

United States Navy Fighter aircraft were scrambled yesterday over northeastern Syria after two Syrian air force SU-24 attack planes conducted strikes near Hasakah while coalition forces were conducting operations there as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, Defense Department spokesman Navy Capt. Jeff Davis stated on Friday. The airstrikes were preceded by a couple of days of clashes on the ground that involved artillery, Davis told reporters at the Pentagon.

Hanwha Techwin wins $204mn contract to supply KF-X engine parts

According to Yonhap news agency, Hanwha Techwin, a South Korea's defense manufacturer, said Monday that it has signed a parts supply deal worth $204 million with Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. (KAI), the country's sole aircraft manufacturer. The deal is designed to localize parts of the engine for Korea's next-generation fighter jets, Hanwha Techwin said in a regulatory filing. On May 26, South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) selected GE Aviation as the preferred bidder to supply F414 engines for its next-generation indigenous fighter, known as the KF-X. KAI said Hanwha Techwin is set to import GE engines and localize some of them, and assemble the engines before delivering them to the South Korean government for the project.

Israel receives its first stealth fighter, the F-35 "ADIR"

The Israeli Air Force welcomed Israel’s first stealth aircraft in history Wednesday evening, with the acquisition of an F-35 Lighting II fighter jet. The aircraft, produced by Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, Texas, is the first fifth-generation fighter acquired by Israel. A ceremony on Wednesday held at the Lockheed Martin factory celebrated the completion of the very first Israeli F-35. Specially designed for Israel’s needs, the planes sold to Israel are of the F-35I “Adir” variant, which incorporates Israeli electronic warfare system and will be compatible with various Israeli munitions and components.
